The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Sep. 24, 2006 - The Trojan Wars

This is not a blog about sailing but rather a liveaboard comedy of errors.  There are some things that parents don't need to know, but Mother, if you really feel the need, proceed at your own risk.  You were warned...

It is amazing the things you can lose in 40' of space.  There are so many places for things to be stored... such as condoms.  And this is not the first time we have lost them either, sad to say...

In November when we provisioned we bought our propholactics from Sam's, yes, in bulk.  Another cruising couple had taken us to Sam's Club with them, good opportunity.  When we got back to the boat and started to process things, package, and stow them we noticed a bevy of birth control was missing.

So we go over to Kindred Spirit (who btw are our grandparents age...) and tell them "If you find a year's worth of condoms in your SUV, they're ours."

They laugh heartily, ask what a year's supply is...could be different things to different people...we are at a loss for words (am I blushing through this tan?)... thankfully they toss their keys and say "Go look yourself."

Whew.

So now her it is September, near October and the last sealed bag is AWOL.  We have done a very thorough inventory over the last 2 days because we are tearing the boat apart from stem to stern ISO.  We know everything and how much of it is stored where so the computer database inventory is up to date!  But we have not found the one thing we wanted.  And the one thing that is curiously missing from the old database is... mm-hmmm, condoms.

HP looks jolly good and everything stowed neatly.  But as U2 sung, "I still haven't found what I'm looking for."

By the way, after closing up the last compartment in our search, I told Heather, "I don't know where the f-ing condoms are."

"It's really ironic you call them that..." she retorts.
