The Adventures of S/V Holding Pattern

Nov. 9, 2006 - A Horse With No Name

I apologized to Holding Pattern today...while I finished sanding the name off.  Heather took the majority of the letters off and I went behind her with the sander to neaten things up.  While she was taking the hailing port (Titusville, FL) off I went at the last of the name sections...I felt like I was doing something dirty or wrong.  It is amazing how the boat seems alive sometimes...even in our mind.

All the blisters are sanded and filled.  Brian bonded (literally) with the epoxy, resin, and 404/410 structural compound while Heather fixed the dinghy cover, found and marked nicks and gouges in the hull, re-marked our anchor marks in the chain (we do every 25')... we were both busy as bees.  Domestic chores aren't getting done and the inside is just terrible.  We flipped a coin...I am going to straighten while Heather does dishes.

Our fridge is saltwater cooled - the compressor, actually - and being up on the hard we have no fridge.  Between our ice chest and one that was loaned to us by another boat we've saved all our cold foods.  Just a minor inconvenience, I guess.

Cruising us all about change, this is an enormous change and I think both of us are handling it beautifully.  We're both at it from sun-up to happy hour at 4, we're paying to be here...we're not used to  paying for daily life...so we're doing our best to get done, get splashed, and get going again.

Tomorrow is final sand on the hull.  Painting Sat & Sun.  Knock on wood, we'll meet our goal of 2 weeks (plus inclement weather day delays) maybe, just maybe.  The weather is supposed to be warm and dry for a few days, so looks like we'll get a break there.

We're still only a day behind our friend who is a professional hull re-finisher.  He checks our work at regular intervals and we're coming along well.  Working as a team we get things done very efficiently.

We're both tired, time to do domestic chores, pop in a movie we've borrowed from the office, and maybe make some popcorn.
