Swagmans Sailing Blog

Come on in and say hello via a 'comment'. We've cruised our Hanse 46' sailboat from UK to Egypt to the Caribbean mainly two handed from 2004 to 2008 - and enjoyed every minute. We are back temporarily in the UK - but sunshine beckons us again for next summer.

To Russia with Love

Posted at 10:17 AM, Tuesday, February 6, 2007

Corrr blimey..............Really impressed with the social activities run by Kemer Park Marina.  Seems its not your regular arfternoon tea party type stuff to keep the livaboards entertained.

They've just advised the marina are planning a five day trip from Turkey to Moscow and St Petersburg mid April for all marina users (and it is when we will be out there) which includes Moscow Boat Show.

Having never visited Moscow (did drive to St Petersburg in cold war days which is story in itself) this sounds like a trip we can't really miss especially as it seems good value at £600 pp all incl.  And it involves an overnight real train sleeper from Moscow to St Petersburg - so 007, eat your heart out.

Will speak to M tonight and pending approval, likely to book this into our 2007 plans.

Cheers
JOHN

Listen Olive,
As most associated in any way with sailing don't recognise such small units - lets say it's M as in Ms Moneypounds.

Seems like a suberb birthday pressie for the both of you...........remembering of course that all the best people have birthdays in April !

Seem to recall some people had birthday cakes etc whilst aboard Swagman last year whilst others had nothing despite their best "post it" reminder on their wet weather gear :-)

Hope you and Sue have a hoot - the 2007 itinerary just get's better and better.

Mr McP - you've now got a job!

Any chance of sourcing / finding someone elses ARC Menu / provisioning list on the WWW so we can use it as a base for our 14 - 18 day crossing?
If we can fix this early in the summer maybe possible to build up dry goods etc as we meander back across the Med as opposed to one huge shop in Canaries. As you are fuly aware, we're not good with trollys.
Cheers

Food List Challenge

Posted by Motley McCrew at 9:09 AM, Friday, February 9, 2007

Couldn't find any web based list, however there is some useful information in a book I have called "Sell up and Sail" by Bill and Laurel Cooper. ISBN 0-7136-6086-4.

In this book their is a list of all the foods taken on a Transatlantic crossing, along with a list of what was left over at the other end bit expensive to buy just for this section.

However I'm quite happy to stick my copy in the post - drop me a quick e.mail with your address, as I can't seem to find this either.....must be that Als, Alz,Alts, Altz........you know that thing when you forget!!

Only input I have, is that if there were to be no butter beans - I would be a happy chappie :-)

BUGGER - It's Off!

Seems the travel company could not get desired numbers to do this trip at a good price so the whole events beeen binned.
A shame.
Last year we celebrated (or rather I reminded all others that we should be celebrating) my birthday as we screamed across from Agina to Samos in howling F8 northerlies.
Was hoping we'd do the same mit vodka on the Moscow to St Petersburgh overnight train.........but sadly not to be.
Still.
Gives more time for prepping Swagman for the big trip - I'm told the suns shining at 18 degrees on the boat as we speak - and we are only 3 weeks away from the big silver bird to get some of that......so really not too much wrong with my world.

Just a hello really and some info

Posted by Anonymous at 1:57 PM, Wednesday, April 4, 2007

Hello Swagman, I have never blogged before.
I am commenting on the fact that you are leaving the boat in Gib or Lagos with a view to sailing to the Canaries in September...well I plan to leave my cat, "Rebel T" at lagos marina having attended Rally Portugal. My plan is to return 28th Aug to sail to Lanzarotte. I have booked flights out of Lanzarotte for the 16th Sept for myself and crew. I plan to leave Lagos on or about 2nd Sept weather depending. to then leave the boat till mid Nov then rejion and do the ARC . I was advised by various people to book my berth early regarding the stays in marinas as these times are their busiest. You may be aware of all this already but then again you may not!! either way as I was wombling through your comments in the ARC site, I thought I would stick my nose in. I look forward to any reply if that is what happens and if not to seeing you in Lagos or Lanzarotte or Las Palmas. Rum and coke please!!
Yours sincerely Tim Walsh

Hi Tim,

Appreciate that advice and suspect you'll find more of an issue with space at Lagos than we may. If you've not been there before most jetties have piles so only spaces for cats / tris are on T heads - and maybe only 8 of them in the marina.
But we we will email in advance - once we closer and can judge eta a bit better.
Our timing out of Lagos onto Canaries is going to be variable - dependant on decision to visit the N African coast or to go direct.
So you somewhere!
Happy Sailing
JOHN
