Come on in and say hello via a 'comment'. We've cruised our Hanse 46' sailboat from UK to Egypt to the Caribbean mainly two handed from 2004 to 2008 - and enjoyed every minute. We are back temporarily in the UK - but sunshine beckons us again for next summer.

Scored a Bargain!

Posted at 6:11 AM, Sunday, April 29, 2007

We've a neat, but budget cost passerrel (or gangway) made of stainless and teak.  You can see it running over the dinghy in this picture below.

Bit narrow - but has worked fine for me at least.

Sue always hesitates and treats it like walking across a cravass ice bridge.

So when a u beaut Oyster 64 came in opposite complete with £15,000 new remote control extending heavy duty gangway fitted - we stopped by to oh and ahh.  Especially Sue.

Then the guy offloads onto the jetty the Multiplex Carbon fibre folding gangway you can see lying also in th epicture - and after a very brief chat about it being surplus to his needs - my offer of 150 Turkish lire (£50) was accepted!

As they cost around £1,500 new - we know we scored a bargain.  I'm sure when fitted Sue will parade back and forth swinging off the carbon handrails with a swagger.

All I need do now to round off the bargain is sell our stainless / teak one for a similar price..........

You can also see the recut cover on the new dinghy hanging off its davits.  The new slightly longer gangway will mean we can leave the dinghy hanging when entering other Med ports - as we can moor a few feet further out and still get ashore safely.

Am off back to UK early this arvo via Anatalya.  Robs arriving on same plane we catch out - so our taxi is picking him up - but doubt if we'll see each other at the airport.  He's even texting us where his car is parked at Gatwick so we use that also..........

A week of dog walking and horse mucking awaits, but looking forward to it almost as much as looking forward to getting back here.

Aim to be back on board 6th May and hopefully after genoa tracks are laid, new sail tested, we'll be sliding off westward into the Greek Islands on 9th.

Cheers
JOHN
