17th May - Adverse Weather Forecast

Picked up the lcoal forecast last night and it seems we've a low pressure system heading across from the west bringing strongish winds and rain, with some thunder and lightning.
As Rhodes is still on the nose and Simi harbour apparently not comfortable in a southerly wind (so the pilot book says), we're now aiming to slide a bit further north on the Turkish coast and find a well protected gunk hole where we can sit out the blow under anchor.
Dirsek, a half mile long narrow inlet with its entry facing north seems ideal. It's about 45 miles NNW from Marmaris - a comfortable half days sail - and leaves us placed slightly further north for our jump off point to the Greek islands. That in itself is not a bad thing, as once this low pressure system moves through we're likely to see the prevailing 'meltemi' come back in - which is from the NNW.
So being placed more north will allow us to slide off toward Santorini before the meltemi, as opposed to bashing into it from the south.
So as it stands (and it could change again folks) it looks like Kos is now our first Greek island - maybe in 48/72 hours - certainly once the southerly goes through.
Cheers
JOHN and SUE
