Swagmans Sailing Blog

Come on in and say hello via a 'comment'. We've cruised our Hanse 46' sailboat from UK to Egypt to the Caribbean mainly two handed from 2004 to 2008 - and enjoyed every minute. We are back temporarily in the UK - but sunshine beckons us again for next summer.

26th December 2007 - Photos

Posted at 11:02 AM, Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Hi All,
These two shots sum up the differences.  The first one is Swagman off the beach in Bequia (shes the dark blue yacht with biege sail cover seen between the two palms) -

The second is Chaquita and Swagman when rafted up alongside off Wallilibou -

We've had a superb Xmas with Paul and Annette plus Diane and Paul Hayter - and will clear out of Bequia once customs opens at 0830 this morning.  We are heading back northward - this time by passing St Vincent - to spend one night in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, before sailing on up to Martinique to meet up with French pals Sylvie and Guy off Takari and Robin, Charles, Olwyn and Alan off Robin Leigh.  For New Year we'll hopefully get to Antigua to party with Spectra and maybe also Nooka.

Cheers
JOHN

Hi John and Sue just catching up with your blog and great to see the ARC result. Notwithstanding the "improved" handicap they gave you before the start looks like you cleaned up by 20 hours. Congratulations on a fantastic result even more so with a shorthanded boat! Your story on piracy is a chilling reminder of unexpected dangers and the need to be careful and alert at all times - makes one think of carrying arms on board? Great that you guys were able to provide assistance and I hope they are now ok and able to resume their cruise.
All the best for the new year and safe cruising.

Cheers
Pam and Keith

Hi Guys

Hi Savak - good to speak with you (and the rest of the gang) yesterday and felt very nopstalgic listyening to the drunken rambles on the phone - love to you and Andrew.
Hi Keith - thanks also for the good wishes. Irrigardless of the ARC result, we knew when we got it we'd sailed a good 'race' so also well pleased with ourselves. Guns? To be honest I would have loved one when standing sentry duty after the event, but in the cool light of day do think one is best to make use of alternative 'weapons'. Some form of pepper spray and a baseball bat are high on my list of boat buys and suggest the first is something all cruisers should carry. Not easy to source the sprays here but will get some next time we are back in Europe.
Take care and Happy New Year
JOHN
