19 June, 2005 (Father's Day)

I woke up to the friendly rocking of my boat at about 7:00.  I cleaned up the cabin, cleared the cockpit of the debris from the party last night and waited for my fellow raft-up skippers to wake up.  Mike and Mac woke up and started coffee.  At about 7:45 we saw a deer swimming across the entrance to Ten-Cove.  She made it about half way across before a pair of idiots in a fishing boat HAD to approach the deer to take a close look and scare her back across.  Of course we all wondered if this was Chancie's raging T-Rex LOL.  By 8:15 I was raising my sails and heading downwind to the dam.  The sailing was excellent.  Reach/Reach both directrions down the main lake with no tacking.  By 11:00 I needed to get home and "Do The Deed", so I dropped the sails and put the boat away.  It was tough to moor the boat when the wind was picking up so perfectly.  When I crossed the dam it looked like every sailboat on the lake was sailing.  Sails full, boats heeled nicely and racing along the lake.  Amy and I were going to head back to the lake, but weatrherbug said the wind had dropped to about 3-4.  I called mac, who was still at the lake and asked about conditions.  It was a drifter, so  I opted not to make the 31 mile trip back to the lake.  We went to Boater's World to get some new docking lines and fender hardware, then had dinner at Outback.   All in all, it was a very good sailing day.  Even though I only had a few hours in the morning, the weekend was a success.  I reminded myself that I have all season left to enjoy the lake and sailing.  Many will never know the joy of the sails filling.

Light Air 0-5 mph SSE.  A real drifter.  But we still enjoyed ourselves.  Amy and I had a Martini at our mooring ball then retired to the V berth for awhile.  The party, "Hawiian luaw(sp?) by Chancie and Erhen", was great.  Great eats, great drinks and great folks with whom to commune.  Irishe's children were there and were, as always, great fun.  Sam came aboard my boat so I told him pirate stories, and even pointed out the pirates who'd attended the party.  Luke was wearing a bandana and looked the part, so I decided to tell Sam the tale of Captain Luke sailing his pirate ship, Helga, around Lake Jacomo looking for boats to board, and kids to steal.  I took Amy home at abaout 8:30 PM and returned for the raft-up.  At about 10:30 I motored out to 10-Cove and moored with Mac (Catalina 25) and Mark (Hunter 260).  The drinking continued.  We were joined by Mike (Hunter 28.5), Chancie and Aeren (Catalina 27) and a Catalina 22, the skipper unknown to me.  We had a very good evening.  Mark was especially animated in his alcohol-induced state.  Steven was his normal VERY chatty self, but maybe raised to a few orders of magnitude.  Chancie spun the yarn of the charging T-Rex wind storm and killer trees while he was anchored a week prior.  The 60 MPH winds were not exaggerated.  That weekend had quite a blow.  Mac, Mark and myslef egged him on and made fun of teh running T-Rex.  "I don't think the T-Rex was really RUNNING, Chancie.  Maybe walking quickly."  "And what of these killer trees?  Which one is it?  And where is the T-Rex now?  Did the killer tree eat him?"  Chancie said he loved that I acceptedthe fact that there was a T-Rex running down the shore and that there were killer trees in the woods :)  It was a very fun evening.    Everyone turned in at 1:30-2:30.  A nice soft breeze rocked me to sleep as an owl hooted in the distance.  What a way to end a great day!
