19 June, 2005 (Father's Day)
I woke up to the friendly rocking of my boat at about 7:00. I cleaned up the cabin, cleared the cockpit of the debris from the party last night and waited for my fellow raft-up skippers to wake up. Mike and Mac woke up and started coffee. At about 7:45 we saw a deer swimming across the entrance to Ten-Cove. She made it about half way across before a pair of idiots in a fishing boat HAD to approach the deer to take a close look and scare her back across. Of course we all wondered if this was Chancie's raging T-Rex LOL. By 8:15 I was raising my sails and heading downwind to the dam. The sailing was excellent. Reach/Reach both directrions down the main lake with no tacking. By 11:00 I needed to get home and "Do The Deed", so I dropped the sails and put the boat away. It was tough to moor the boat when the wind was picking up so perfectly. When I crossed the dam it looked like every sailboat on the lake was sailing. Sails full, boats heeled nicely and racing along the lake. Amy and I were going to head back to the lake, but weatrherbug said the wind had dropped to about 3-4. I called mac, who was still at the lake and asked about conditions. It was a drifter, so I opted not to make the 31 mile trip back to the lake. We went to Boater's World to get some new docking lines and fender hardware, then had dinner at Outback. All in all, it was a very good sailing day. Even though I only had a few hours in the morning, the weekend was a success. I reminded myself that I have all season left to enjoy the lake and sailing. Many will never know the joy of the sails filling. |
